The course is suitable for a person who is practicing and not practicing in the forestry field, and with Ordinary Secondary School Education with at least two passes.

Aim and Objective of the Course

Aim: To provide practical skills, knowledge and correct attitude in forestry field to meet labour market demand and enable trainee for further training.

 

Objectives:

At the end of the course, the trainee should be able to:

  • Clear and till the land for forest establishment

LEARNING AND TRAINING METHODOLOGY

Learning and training methodology in CBET is based upon philosophy of learning through application, and learners’ competent performance should focus on three domains i.e. cognitive, affective and psychomotor skills.  Therefore, a variety of   learning and   teaching methods will be applied in delivering the curricula content.  Normally, the vocational teacher functions as a facilitator hence learning and training is learner   centred.  Learning and training however will include institutional and industrial based training (field attachment). Field attachment will be part of training. Its assessment modalities will be managed by using a logbook comprising occupational areas to be covered.

MANAGEMENT OF ASSESSMENT

In a competence – based assessment system, the purpose of assessment is to collect sufficient evidence that the individuals can perform to specified standards in a specific role

Modes of Assessment

In implementing CBET, testing and assessment shall be conducted in two ways; internal and external assessment according to assessment guidelines.

Internal Assessment

This is a continuous or formative assessment which is conducted by a vocational  teacher. Each unit has to be assessed and the trainee has to meet a required standard before she/he can proceed to the next unit.

Final Assessment

Final assessment is a quality assurance process conducted by a licensed external assessor before the learner is awarded a certificate of competence.

Award Description

In order to have a pool of qualified skilled labour force with recognized vocational qualifications, VETA has devised a quality control system to ensure quality vocational education training in the three initial vocational levels (1 – 3). All certificates, both NVA and non-award programs such as RPL, Dual Apprenticeship and Short Courses will be issued by the Directorate of Assessment and Certification at VETA Head Office.

  • (a) The award in VET system shall be known as National Vocational Award (NVA).
  • (b) To qualify for the NVA, one needs to have the required competences in the three domains of learning i.e. Psychomotor (Practical skills), Cognitive (theory) and Affective (attitudes) domains in a relevant field.
  • (c) NVA level 1 (National Vocational Certificate level 1) and level 2 (National Vocational Certificate level 2) will be the voluntary exit points in the vocational education and training system.
  • (d) NVA level 3 (National Vocational Certificate level 3) will be a compulsory exit whereby one is regarded to have completed vocational education and training programmes.

Entry Requirements

The minimum entry qualifications in the course are:

Level 1

  • Ordinary Secondary School Education with two passes 

Level 2

  • The trainee should have achieved performance grade C in continuous assessment of subjects conducted in level 1.

 Level 3

  • A trainee should have a minimum performance grade C in final assessment and continuous subject conducted at level 2.

 Wood Processing Attendants

The course is suitable for a person who is practicing and not practicing in wood industry field and with Ordinary Secondary School Education with pass in Biology and Chemistry subjects.

Aim: To provide practical skills, knowledge and right attitudes to people who want to become wood processing attendants to meet the employment demands of the labour market and also widen chances for further training in Wood Industry and related field.

  • Perform saw blade maintenance
  • Perform sawmill operations
